The Government Information Technology Officers (GITO) Council, South Africa, informed that it would help municipalities to improve the service delivered to citizens through ICT.

The GITO Council will act as an ICT coordination and consolidation vehicle to inform government, how the best services can be provided to citizens. The council has been involved in the policy formulation, e-Government policy and strategy, IT procurement guidelines. It also makes recommendations on the use of open source software in government sector.
