The United Nations (UN) has released survey of e-Government readiness around the world. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) were the highest ranked countries in the Middle East. The UAE moved up to 32nd spot from 42nd in 2005.
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) has released its 2008 e-Government Survey, which shows that all GCC member states have significantly improved in e-Government Readiness since the 2005 survey.
The Kuwaiti Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT), has partnered with the ICDL GCC Foundation, certification authority of the International Computer Driving License program in the Gulf States to implement the IDCL and e-Citizen programs as part of a nationwide effort to increase digital awareness within the government workplace and society.
The Malaysian-based company HeiTech Padu Berhad has launched a smart card, which offers variety of functions, including e-banking, payment of utility bills, e-passport in a single card.
