Through a public-private partnership, the U.S. Department of State has launched a telemedicine service in Pakistan, thereby taking the transformative power of high speed connectivity to improving social services in remote areas.
Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira the Federal IT Minister has said that the present Government of Pakistan desires to use IT to bring about greater efficiency and transparency within the government, streamline the functioning of the government and at the same time facilitate the citizens by providing them services at their doorsteps.
The Government of Pakistan has allocated an amount of INR 6.237 billion for the development of rural areas of the country. The government has adopted a comprehensive policy for rural development, including agriculture, social and physical infrastructure.
Pakistan is moving forward to bridge the digital divide in the country by improving the access to ICT for low income groups. The government is targeting to provide 1.6 million broadband connections in next three years.
