The use of ICT is inevitable to improve the usage of existing branch infrastructure to expand its the outreach of the formal financial system to the rural poor. The following are some initiatives towards achieving financial inclusion:
The Uttar Pradesh Government (India) has implemented an e-Scholarship programme to ensure timely payment of scholarship to more than 2 crore students.
The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board are introducing electronic bill payment of water in the Tamil Nadu, India.
The Union Panchayati Raj Ministry has developed software to maintain database of bank accounts of all Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to transfer the funds through electronic banking channels. Once the data is entered, the money would be transferred directly to the2,40,000 PRIs from the State’s Consolidate Fund.
