Punjab GovernmentStating the Government of Punjab is open to ideas, the Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Thursday gave a clarion call to IT firms for establishing their base in the State.

“IT dept is generating a lot of employment and has a lot of potential. The Government of Punjab is very open to ideas and IT companies can set up their base in Punjab,” the minister said while speaking at the Elets Digital India Conclave, Chandigarh organised by Chandigarh Administration in association with Elets Technomedia Pvt Ltd.

“We provide a lot of support to startups. We have created a congenial atmosphere in Punjab,” the minister added.


The minister also launched the special edition of eGov Magazine titled – “Chandigarh Marching Towards a Robust Digital Future”.

Hailing it as a great time to be in India due to unprecedented growth of the country’s GDP and rise of the technological force, he said that information technology can leapfrog the country into a new age.


“It’s make or break time for India. We are the new watchmen for the country. I want to pay tribute to the school teachers of the nation who have been teaching the young minds in all these new technologies,” the Minister added in his speech on the occasion.

The day-long event saw another Punjab Minister, Vijay Inder Singla, Minister of Information Technology sharing his vision of IT for his State.

From the Chandigarh Administration, Jitender Yadav, Special Secretary, Department of Information Technology, who was the programme chair of the conclave, delved upon various IT initiatives taken up by the UT.

From National Research and Education Network (ERNET), Dr Neena Pahuja talked about advent of new technologies in the country.

“Internet of Things (IoT) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) will change the ways things work globally. We are doing experiment in free space optics,” she said.

Other distinguished officials present at the conclave included: Dr N S Kalsi, Additional Chief Secretary, Home & Governance Reforms, Government of Punjab, Dr N S Kalsi, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Governance Reforms, Government of Punjab, Saurav Acharya, Team MyGov, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, Satyaprakash, Managing Director, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation

(HSIIDC) shared the success stories in respect of technologies of their respective States.

Various panel discussions raising key issues included: Smart Cities in the era of Digital India; Ensuring Digital Economy in Digital India: Benefits to public; Leveraging Futuristic Technology for Good Governance: Challenges & Opportunities at the Conclave.
