World' longest bridge

World’s longest bridge has officially opened in China linking Hong Kong to Macau and mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai.

World' longest bridgeChinese President Xi Jinping inaugurated the bridge which has been built at a cost of $20 billion. Leaders of Hong Kong and Macau were also present. The bridge has reduced the travelling time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong from four hours to mere 30 minutes.

More than 4 lakh tonnes of steel has been used to built i and more than 30 km of it total length crosses the sea of the Pearl River Delta.

An undersea tunnel has also been created between two artificial islands which will allow the ships to pass through easily.

China plans to create a Greater Bay Area which will include Hong Kong, Macau and nine other cities in southern China.

The construction of this bridge started in 2009 and has been marred by several delays.
