Goa’s Department of Information and Technology will soon launch short-term digital skill courses for government employees in Margao and Panaji to upgrade their skills in accordance with the e-governance programme being rolled out in various departments across the state.

Speaking at a government programme in Goa assembly complex, Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Information and Technology, said that government employees need to be skilled to adopt fast changes happening in technology space.

The digital skill programme by the state IT Department for government employees will start from the next month, Khaunte said, adding that it will have a “focused approach towards government staff who interact with people”.

According to the minister, the government employees of Revenue Department, Labour Department, Agriculture Department and Tourism Department will be among those who will undergo the skill development training.

The initiative, he said, is important for making implementation of e-governance platform and the Goa Right of Citizens to Time-bound Delivery of Public Services Act a success.

The minister also announced that Goa Electronics Limited, an agency providing IT support to government departments in Goa, has been entrusted with developing, upgrading and maintaining all state government websites.
