Kerala flood victimsNLC India Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking which was formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation, has provided various flood relief material and extended financial help to flood victims in Kerala, which is facing unprecedented rains followed by landslides and floods that have affected thousands of people across the coastal state.

NLC India Limited has provided cloth, bedsheets, mats, water bottles, food items, mosquito replants, candles, and other flood relief material through its subsidary, Neyveli Thermal PowerProject (NTPL), Tuticorin.

The relief work was carried out in three phases on 17, 18 and 19 August, in coordination with the Tuticorin district administration.

The PSU has also announced to make a contribution of Rs 5 crore towards the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. While more than Rs 3 crore has been contributed by the employees of NLCIL, Rs 2 crore has come from the management of the PSU.

While the actual estimates of losses in Kerala may run into thousands of crore, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sought Rs 2,600 crore from the central government to rebuild the state. Support for the deluge-hit state has been pouring in from across the world but it may take a long time to rebuild the state’s infrastructure.
