This includes rural and remote area railway stations as well. The project will cost Rs 700 crore.
Currently, only 216 railways stations have the Wi-fi facility which provide free internet to about seven million rail passengers.
Railways have plan to provide free internet to local people of the remote areas as well through free Wi-fi at 7,300 stations.
Railway stations in rural areas will have kiosks with Wi-FI that will provide services like digital banking, Aadhaar generation, issuing government certificates, including birth and death certificates, and filing taxes and paying bills, among others.
It will also help the rural population to order products online through e-commerce website.
By March this year, 600 stations will be equipped with free Wi-fi and by next year all the railway stations will come under this scheme.
