Digital India: Wi-fi kiosks at 500 remote railway stations

To expand the reach of Digital India campaign to the interiors of the country, Railways has decided to install wi-fi kiosks at 500 remote stations.
These kiosks will be called ‘Railwire Saathi’ where people can access internet for various government schemes, e-commerce, online banking, insurance schemes, e-ticketing etc.
Through these kiosks, Railways is trying to build digital PCOs.
In the remote areas, where connectivity is an issue, these kiosks will provide facilities of automated form filling, mobile and DTH recharge among other services.

Railwire Saathi plans to generate employment opportunities through this initiative. There is also a plan to digitally train women and make them business sustainable.

RailTel, the telecom arm of railways, would execute the scheme across the country.
Railways is also making 400 stations wi-fied in association with Google, through another project.
