CSThe Uttar Pradesh Government has appointed 1982-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Deepak Singhal as the Chief Secretary of the State.

Singhal replaces Alok Ranjan, who retired on June 30. He will have the additional charge of Chief Resident Commissioner and Chairman of Pradeshiya Industrial & Investment Corporation of UP (PICUP).

The new Chief Secretary has earlier served as the Principal Secretary – Irrigation Department in the Uttar Pradesh Government.

Singhal, however, took charge from Pravir Kumar, who was appointed as the officiating Chief Secretary, after the term of Ranjan expired on June 30.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had been on a foreign trip since June 28 and came back on July 4. Hence, the decision to appoint new Chief Secretary could be taken on June 6.
