The Government of India has appointed 15 new Joint Secretaries in various departments. Interestingly, not all the new appointees are from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). An IAS officer has also been empanelled as Joint Secretary. The full list is as follows:

• Sanjay Awasthi, an IRS officer of Income Tax cadre of 1989 batch has been appointed as Member Secretary, National Council for Teacher Education, under the Department of School Education & Literacy. He replaces R Jaya, an IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre of 1995 batch.
• Ashok, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of Uttarakhand cadre from 1983 batch has been laterally shifted as Joint Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, till his superannuation on July 31, 2017. He replaces Santosh Kumar, an IDAS officer of 1990 batch.
• Rajesh Aggarwal, an IAS officer of 1989 batch from Maharashtra cadre, has been laterally shifted as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs. He replaces Ashok.
• Anna Roy an IES officer of 1992 batch, has been appointed as Adviser, Knowledge and Innovation Hub, Niti Aayog.
• Suchindra Mishra, an IDAS officer of 1992 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secrertary, Department of Financial Services. He replaces Rajesh Aggarwal.
• Madnesh Kumar Mishra, an IRS officer of Income Tax cadre of 1990 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services, replacing Anna Roy.
• Anju Nigam, an IPoS officer of 1988 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. He replaces Puneet Kansal, an lAS officer of Sikkim cadre of 1996 batch.
• Sudhir K Saxena, an IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre of 1987 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, replacing Shailesh, an lAS officer of 1985 batch from Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
• R K Mitra, a CSS officer of 1998 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. He replaces V Vualnam, an lAS officer of 1992 batch of Manipur cadre.
• Kalpana Awasthi, an IAS officer of 1990 batch of UP cadre, has been appointed as Director General, National Productivity Council, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion. She replaces Harbhajan Singh, a 1983 batch IAS officer of his own cadre.
• Jayant Sinha, an IA&AS officer of 1990 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Defence. He replaces Sanjeev Ranjan, an lAS officer of 1985 from Tripura cadre.
• Meenakshi Sharma, an IA&AS officer of 1988 batch, has been appointed as Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism, replacing Usha Sharma, an IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre of 1985 batch
• Sanjeeb Kumar Patjoshi, an IPS officer of 1991 batch from Kerala cadre, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj. He replaces Iqbal Singh Chahal, a 1989 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre.
• Rajiv Arora, a 1987 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, replacing G Venugopal Reddy, an IRSEE officer of 1985 batch.
• G Venugopal Reddy has been prematually repatriated to his parent cadre.
• Chithra Arumugam, an IAS officer of 1995 batch from Orissa cadre, has been empanelled as a Joint Secretary in the Government of India.
