After the concern raised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few days back over the issue of frequent call drops, TRAI has been seriously looking into the matter.
TRAI has also proposed that service providers should compensate mobile subscribers for call drops and poor quality of services.
While speaking about call drops at an event in New Delhi, TRAI Chairman R S Sharma said, “It is a serious issue and citizens should not suffer anymore. It needs to be addressed. We have brought out a consultation paper on how customers can be provided compensation (for call drops).”
It is to be noted that TRAI has already met the service providers and asked them to address the issue on urgent basis. “We will check the call drops data in Delhi and Mumbai and also compare it with that of other cities. If the situation does not improve in 15 days, we will take serious steps. We will think of imposing penalty on telecom companies,” added Sharma.
