India Post to send SMS to customers on parcel delivery status

india-post-logoThe Postal Department  has decided to send SMS to customers informing them about status of mails, parcels, money orders and other deliveries by September.

The department has also decided to track their postmen with help of GPS enabled handheld devices by October.

From September, SMS wile sent to people informing them about status of their parcels and other deliveries,” said Vasumitra, India Post Chief Postmaster General for Delhi.

Moreover, the department is also planning to enhance services for e-commerce segment. E-commerce business has reportedlyincreased revenue for post offices.

Vasumitra added, “Last year, the department earned a revenue of Rs 48 crore from e-commerce business. This year the target is to achieve over Rs 100 crore from Delhi circle alone.”
