votingThe Election Commission has reportedly come out with a legal framework to allow e-voting for NRIs.

The legal framework, prepared by expert committee in the Election Commission, has been forwarded to the Law Ministry to amend electoral laws.

“Law has been framed and it is with the Law Ministry,” Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said.

NRIs are free to cast their votes in constituencies they are registered. According to report, as per the proposal they would also be allowed to use the option of proxy, which as of now is only available to service personnel. They would be able to use postal ballot delivered to them by electronic means.
