The quest to develop Naya Raipur as ‘smart city’

smartcityNaya Raipur, the new capital city of Chhattisgarh, aggressively vies to be one of the 100 ‘smart cities’ that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to build across the country.

Today we have all the facilities at Naya Raipur. From education to business, the city offers ample opportunities,” Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh said at ‘Opportunity Chhattisagarh 2015′, an event organised by Department of Information Technology, Chhattisgarh in association with Nasscom. “We have all facilities at Naya Raipur & skilled youths for development of IT industry in the state.” Now, we have IIM here. Soon, we will have IIT too,” he said.

Ecohing the same voice, Vivek Dhand, Chief Secretary, Government of Chhattisagarh said, “Naya Raipur is the first ‘smart city’ of India and was envisioned by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh when its concept wasn’t raised in the country.”

“Spread over approximately 20,000 acres, Naya Raipur will be developed as the best ‘smart city’,” Dhand said.

Aman Kumar, Principle Secretary to CM and  Electronic & Department of Information Technology, said, “Naya Raipur will be the first ‘smart city’ to have unified bills for all utility services like water bill, electricity bill, etc.”

Transit-Oriented Development (ToD) strategy has been used for the development of the city. “ The strategy has been used to better integrate land development, transportation, and infrastructure investment within the overall city development plan,” Rajat Kumar, CEO, Naya Raipur Development Authority, said.

“We have planned construction of about 33,000 homes in the city,” he added.
