Govt to create Special Purpose Vehicles for ‘Smart Cities’

Smart CityThe Government is planning to create a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for ‘smart cities’.

“A SPV will be created for each city to be included in the ‘Smart City’ scheme,” said Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

“Efficient deployment of physical and human resources is one of the key objectives. Smart solutions will be applied to places and projects to enable efficient utilization of limited resources like land, water, power etc,” he added.

Highlighting the present deficit in physical, social, economic and institutional infrastructure, Naidu said that appropriate measures will be taken to make the cities more livable and drive the economic growth.

“Pan-city schemes like efficient public transport systems including ring roads, e-governance initiatives etc. will also be undertaken under brownfield development,” he added.

The minister emphasised that ICT solutions would play an important role in improving urban governance and enhancing the efficiency of resource use.

Smart Cities and the New Urban Development Scheme for 500 cities would be launched next month.
