S Ramadorai, Chairman, NSDA and NSDC, along with MP of Tirunelveli, Ram Subbu has inaugurated the constituency model of skills development at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.

The constituency model synergizes the ability and reach of elected leaders of the community to inspire youth, along with the NSDC partners, to provide world class skilling opportunities in distant districts of the country. The independent assessment and certificate at the end of the program, enhances the employment opportunities of the youth, by aligning their skills to needs of the industry.

Inaugurating the new skills development model, S.Ramadorai, Chairman NSDA and NSDC said, “Technology in the form of computers, mobiles and television, has greatly enhanced the awareness and aspirations of youth in all parts of the country. Indeed India is in the midst of a revolution of aspirations. The Government of India has embarked on the world’s largest human resources development initiative and we look forward to making India a highly skilled, inclusive and progressive nation.”


“The National Skills Development Agency harmonizes all the skills development initiatives in the country.  One of the unique instruments contributing towards our skill development goals is the public-private partnership pioneered by the National Skill Development Corporation.  This year, NSDC has accepted the task of skilling one million youth and you are among those chosen to participate in this journey of skills.” He further added.

NSDC skilling partners Rooman Technologies, Laurus Edutech and Providers Skill Academy Pvt. Ltd. present at the inauguration in Tirunelveli today will ensure seamless and successful delivery of the program in the region. The courses will be customized to the needs of the district, and will be designed to be of a quality that is approved and certified by the National Sector Skills Council.


Ram Subbu, MP of Tirunelveli said “Tirunelveli has always been an active center for creating talent pool for various industries. This event today calls upon all of you, to join and contribute in making Thirunelveli highly skilled.  NSDC is a constructive initiative which takes skilling seriously and is intelligently mobilising corporates through different sector skill councils. They have struck the right note by working with the private sector and I urge the corporates to proactively support us in making this a success. I must congratulate all the training partners and their faculty for their contribution to this initiative.”

The youth of Thirunelveli will be among the early groups to gain benefit from the recently launched STAR program. Under this scheme, a candidate can enrol in a skill development program of his or her choice.  On completing the training, the candidate will be assessed by an independent assessment body. On clearing the assessment, the candidate automatically becomes eligible for a monetary reward to the tune of Rs.10,000; on an average.  In most cases, this monetary reward will cover the training costs. The candidate will also get a certificate from the respective Sector Skill Council, which is recognized by the employers.
