Guwahati municipal corporation (GMC) has launched e-payment facility for property tax, which is a prime source of revenue for the corporation. At present, there are 1,76,099 holdings under the corporation with a total property tax revenue of around Rs 27 crore. GMC collects around Rs 25 crore from these properties at its zonal office as well as through tax collectors going from house to house.

“For the convenience of the taxpayer and to ensure timely collection of property tax, GMC started inviting bids from various payment gateway service providers in December, 2012. We have finally selected Billdesk to oversee collections,” said GMC commissioner S. Vishwanathan.

Now residents of the city may login through www.gmcportal.in to view their property tax amount and pay online. There are different options for completing the transaction like debit card, credit card and net banking. If an applicant faces problems in using the new payment facility, she or he can email complaint to propertytaxgmc@gmcportal.in. The terms and conditions of payment, refund and cancellation policy is available on the portal, the report said.
