Revenue Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation to Go Hi tech

Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s revenue department is getting tech savvy. It is creating a system which will have all details of  property, the tax on it and outstanding, if any. The tax collectors would be given tablets. After collecting the property tax and updating the records in real time, the official will issue tax receipt on the spot.

Tax collectors will be equipped with tablet having Bluetooth connectivity and printer. They will be able to issue demand note with the help of data obtained from earlier Geographic Information System and collect property tax on the spot.

Recently, in a sample survey through satellite images of around 5,000 properties, the corporation found changes in 800 structures against the sanctioned plans in the city. With the help of images of length and breadth of properties through satellite imagery, the NMC can also assess whether any new construction is underway on open plots and whether or not it has the requisite sanction.

As part of e-governance, NMC is planning to use technology to bring in transparency. It is fully integrated with e-Governance application, the accounting software that manages NMC’s finances. It will help in complete automation of tax revenue. The new tax collection application will also generate the bank deposit challans.
