Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha recently distributed 5,000 mobile phones to farmers. It will help farmers to plan farming applications and track market price of various agricultural produce and weather.

IIT-Kanpur had designed applications technological support for the mobile phones. Farmers can obtain information through voice call and SMS in local language.

Farmers have to fill up a form to register with the regulated market committees. There are almost 66 regulated market committees in the state.


Government of Odisha has sanctioned Rs two crore for the project. Government plans to distribute 20,000 mobile phones.
