Ahead of Diwali, the state transport department on Saturday collected Rs 1.07 crore through online registration of tickets for long distance buses, ahead of the festive season. This is the biggest online collection in a single day.

“This is the first time the state could manage to touch the Rs 1 crore-a-day mark since chief minister J Jayalalithaa launched the e-booking and mobile booking system in October last year,” said transport minister V Senthil Balaji. On Friday, e-booking fetched 52 lakh. With passengers logging on to the system from the comfort of their homes and offices, and stabilisation of the system over the months, the corporation is reaping the benefits.
Nowadays, about 30% of tickets in state-run buses are booked online. Commuters who have used the website say the process of booking a ticket is smooth.
