Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot will be holding a consultative meeting of Northeastern States on the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) here on June 18, 2012.

Pilot will be holding discussions with Information Technology Ministers from the region on the specific problems and issues faced by the North-eastern States during implementation of NeGP, officials said here.

The plan which was launched in 2006 is aimed at providing affordable and accessible services to the public. The services under NeGP are of special importance, especially for areas such as the Northeastern region having communication difficulty due to its hostile terrain.

In several instances, scaling up of the existing infrastructure and developing new ones has also become necessary, the officials added. In this regard, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology is trying to upgrade the infrastructure and services being provided under the Programme.

Monday’s meeting will also address issues relating to delivery of services by the National Informatics Centre, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and the Department of Posts.

Apart from Pilot, the meeting will be attended by the secretaries of the DEIT, Department of Telecommunications and Department of Posts. All the eight IT Ministers from the region, including the respective State secretaries are scheduled to attend the meeting.
