The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is developing a Geographical Information System (GIS) that will facilitate management of property and property tax online. This GIS enabled e-Governance project will enable citizens to pay water bills and property tax through one bill.

According to sources, the GIS is an online system which will enroll roads, properties, water connections, water sources and important landmarks of the city into a digital base map, which can be viewed by the residents as well.

The project will also allow residents to view their properties online. The GIS will also enable the residents to view their properties online and help the corporation collect property taxes from them.

As of now the method of manual surveys was only allowing collection of about 80 percent property taxes from residents. However, this system will enable BMC to differentiate between the registered and unregistered properties and collect taxes accordingly.

About 70 wards under the corporation have been surveyed and the list of registered and unregistered properties has been created. It will take another six months to launch this. This e-Governance project will be then merged with the Municipal Administrative System (MAS) for better administration.
