The Nagpur Municipal Corporation is soon going to release all its payments through online mode. Currently NMC makes payments in tune of Rs 650-700 crore every year for its various initiatives. The payments are made through cheque only. NMC’s finance wing issues as many as 3000 cheques every month to contractors and others.

Under the new e-Governance system that has been implemented by NMC, the corporation will henceforth issue all its tenders online and it will also make its payments online. The work of e-governance project is almost complete. A circular has been issued announcing that payments would be released through ECS, RTGS, and NEFT mode from April 1.

The circular said, “Contractors have to open new accounts or get the facility of these type of modes before April 1. No excuse will be given in the payment mode.”

The online payment system will bring transparency and ease to the process of disseminating payments. It is also expected to eliminate the chances of bogus cheques being issued. Online payments are also eco-friendly.
