Civic elections will get fast tracked with GIS system

Advanced technology is going to be used by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to ensure that election results can be declared in an hour’s time after the voting process concludes. In the civic elections scheduled for next month Geographic Information System (GIS) will be used.

Earlier this week, the TMC commissioner R A Rajeev, in presence of state election commissioner Neela Satyanarayan, briefed top officials from Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Pune Municipal Corporation, Nasik Municipal Corporation, Jalgaon Municipal Corporation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, etc about the use of the new GIS-based technology by. Satyanarayan spoke about various arrangements made for the civic election in their respective municipal corporations.

The TMC will use the GIS G-Elect software that will help unlock the fate of aspiring candidates to be elected for the civic election. Rajeev informed the media that the TMC will possibly be the first municipal corporation in the country to use such an advanced technology for elections and the state election commission has given the go ahead signal to introduce this technology for the election.

Also, every polling station will be on radar owing to this technology to keep an eye on the activities at polling stations. The technology is automated and transparent and will have a dashboard application for accelerating certain process of the election.
