The Odisha government has introduced the biometric attendance system in some college hospitals to regularise the attendance system of hospital staffs and to ensure timely service to the patients. The hospitals where biometric system has been introduced include, SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur and VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla.
While talking to the media, health and family welfare minister Prasanna Acharya said that the biometric system would help in ensuring that the hospital staffs including doctors arrive at the hospital in time and patients have easy access to healthcare. All the medical staffs are required to come to the hospital in time and put their attendance through the biometric roll call.

The biometric system has been implemented by Global Technology Pvt Ltd, under an initiative of the National Rural Health Mission. According to Prasanna Acharya, the maintenance of the system will also be conducted by Global Technology Pvt. Ltd. The minister also added that the second phase of the system would be implemented at the district headquarter hospitals to provide timely medical service to the patients.

To address the crunch of doctors in the state hospitals, Acharya said that the government was planning to appoint more doctors on an ad hoc basis. Besides, action has been taken to increase seats in all three medical colleges to get more doctors every year to strengthen the health system of the state.
