Government is mulling to introduce e-Governance in the government hospitals to streamline their working and bring transparency. To begin with, Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu and Associated hospitals, Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Jammu and JLNM Hospital, Srinagar will be taken up in the first phase.

 Minister for Medical Education, R S Chib and Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Sham Lal Sharma said at a high-level meeting. They opined that the system would rationalise the functioning and improve patient care greatly.

They asked the Principal Secretary to immediately work out the necessary modalities with the NIC and IT departments before finalisation of proposal. Every care should be taken to ensure that the system serves its purpose efficiently and improves the patient care as per the modern trends.

The Government was keen to promote IT in every sector to maintain the transparency in the system and provide better services to the people. Giving demonstration about the modules developed by the IT Department, the officials maintained that the system would tremendously better the management of registration (OPD/IPD), clinics, pathology, imaging, OT, blood bank, ward management and other allied medicare activities.

It was informed that the IT department will be fully responsible for its operations at least for one year after installation of the system or till the necessary manpower is trained. They will undertake the responsibility for its proper maintenance as per the MoU signed between the two concerns.

Dr Shahida Mir, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Dr Masoodi and Dr Madhu Khullar also gave their views and said that e-governance is need of the hour and it would improve the efficiency of the hospitals and also help in overall patient care.
