Kerala to Offer a Host of Services Under Janasevana Kendram

The Janasevana Kendram opened by the Kochi Corporation at Edappally Zonal office will start offering more services to the public. The office, inaugurated recently, will now help residents of nearly 10 divisions to pay the taxes, renewal of building licenses and permits. The Janasevana Kendram will soon extend its services to other facilities. More counters will be opened for remitting bills of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Kerala Water Authority(KWA), Corporation Tax, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and others. At present, the Janasevana Kendram at Edappally Zonal office provides facilities for obtaining birth, death and marriage certificates. However, more staff strength is needed to extend its services. “Once the e-Governance system of the Kochi Corporation is implemented, the Janasevana Kendram will be able to issue certificates within five hours. More staff will be appointed at the centre,” said a Corporation official. The health supervisor will scrutinise the day-to-day functioning of the Janaseva Kendram. “A computer-operated token system will be introduced in the Kendram,” said the official. The main objective of the Janasevana Kendram is to replace the unimpressive enquiry counters and the 'silo mentality' ingrained in public services, with an inspiring and integrated single window customer-friendly computerised service counter, positioned in a promising pleasant ambience.
