History was created when Canberra lawyers won the right to serve legally binding court documents by posting them on defendants' Facebook sites. Australian Capital Territory Supreme Court ruled last week that lawyers could use the social networking site to serve court notices.

Email and even mobile phone text messages have been used to serve court notices in the past, but this above development of using Facebook profiles showing the date of birth, email addresses and friend lists of the account holder as means of serving of legal notices, is nothing less than a historic development.
