e-Governance Projects – Status report

According to the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology  The major Schemes being implemented by the Department of Information Technology are the State Wide Area Network (SWAN) Scheme, the Common service Centre Scheme (CSC), the State Data Centre (SDC) Scheme the Capacity Building (CB) Scheme and the e-District Scheme. The State Government are responsible for the implementation of these Schemes under the overall supervision of the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Government of India. These Schemes are at various stages of implementation in the States.

The status of various National e-Governance Plans (NeGP) uptil 30th September 2008, as per the information provided by the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in the Lok Sabha yesterday is as follows:

For the CSC scheme, total number of states and union teritories for which this programme was sanctioned was 27. And within these states total number of these CSCs aimed at was 108363. Total amount that was sanctioned for these CSCs was 1603.08 crores, and the total amount released from within the DIT share was 198.03 crore.And as an end result the total number of CSCs set-up has been 17,775.

Next is the SWAN scheme updates, total number of states and union territories SWAN was sanctioned for was 33. The total amount sanctioned for this scheme was 2721.9 crore, out of which total amount released from within DIT quota for SWAN was 478.17 crore. And as the final stage of this scheme, this SWAN program is functional in five states out of the 33 states it was sanctioned for, while in other states this scheme is still under implementation.

For the SDC  scheme, totol number of states it was sanctioned for initially was 23. And the total amount sanctioned for this was 1076.66 crore, out of which a total of 84.06 crores was released from within the DIT share. But this plan is still under implementation in all the states and union territories it was conceived for.

Then is the Capacity Building Scheme which was initially sanctioned for a total of 35 states and union territories. The total amount sanctioned for this scheme was 62.9 crores, from which 52.13 crores was released within the DIT share. And this scheme is also still in the implementation within all the 35 states and union territories it has been sanctioned for.

Last comes the e-District scheme, which was sanctioned for a total of 14 states and union territories. Within this scheme the total number of districts where pilots were undertaken was 35. Total amount sanctioned for this was 108.65 crores, out of which a total of 50.71 crores was released for this scheme from within the DIT share. This scheme is also still under the implementation stage within all the 14 states and union territories that it is planned to be undertaken.
