Google is launching an Internet browser which is said to give Internet Explorer and Firefox stiff competetion. The Browser is named as Chrome which will be launched as a beta for Windows machines in about 100 countries across the globe. The browser will work in machines equipped with Mac and Linux versions.

The google browser is said to be lightweight and fast which is well equipped to cope with the next generation of web applications that involves a lot of graphics and multimedia.

The new browser is expected to enable Google to introduce rich web applications that pose a challenge to the traditional desktop programs.

The company has a range of web applications such as Documents, Picasa and Maps which are popular and offer functionality.

The launch of a beta version of Chrome is a great step towards breaking the monopoly that Microsoft's has over the PC business. Currently, Microsoft's Internet Explorer program accounts for 80% of the browser landscape market.
