e-Governance Projects Launched in Austria

The Government of Austria launched a three-year e-Government reference towns project in order to boost the usage of electronic administration amongst various sections of the population.

The project has taken great care in including a wide range of municipalities among the reference points.

Sapin's Secretary of State for e-Government Heidrun Silhavy said, “State capitals and small rural boroughs are all taking part”.

This move aims at promoting the usage of the country's main e-Government portal, which receives about four lakh visitors per month.

e-Government is a significant angle of the country's current administrative reforms. The Association of Austrian Towns (Stadtebund) General Secretary Thomas Weninger said that the reference towns project was run by the Austrian Federal Chancellor's office, Stadtebund and the Digital Austria Platform.

e-Governance should be a part of all citizens including those with disabilities said Silhavy.
