PC World Web Award 2008 in the tourism category for best design went to the Ministry of Tourism, India website.
The Ministry website won the award amongst a 100.1 million other websites operating in the World Wide Web as on March 2008. The prestigious award was accorded to the website on the basis of various parameters such as content, structure and technology.
The website has quite a heavy traffic of approximately 10 lakh visitors per day.
The website has significantly used the Internet in its campaigns such as “Incredible India” both within the country as well as abroad. The website is innovative and available in languages apart from English such as Hindi, French and Japanese.
It aims at building awareness about the rich culture of India and promote the country as a top tourist destination for foreign and domestic tourists.
The Ministry's website has adopted the theme “Colours of India” for the purpose of publicity efforts of the campaign.
