A national interactive portal on disability was launched by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) on Wednesday to provide information for persons with disability and various stakeholders involved with disability rehabilitation such as NGOs, policy makers, caregivers, service providers and the public at large.

The RCI initially was a registered society under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and in 1993, it was made a statutory body in order ensure proper standardisation and acceptance of the standards.

The portal is divided into three parts. The first part will be on National Disability Register that will provide statistical information on the disabled population. The second part is on the resources such as online courses, catalogues knowledge repository of audio video and Braille files in Indian languages, books related to disability and news magazine.

The third part is proposed to have a Grievance Redressal mechanism through Web Court. It will redress the complaints related to Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, National Trust and Rehabilitation Council of India.

The Portal will also provide transaction assistance, information related to employment opportunities, availability of funds, purchase of appliances and devises for the persons with disability, redressal of grievances, undergo training, research and study.
