Soon, every citizen in Brunei will be able to get e-Passport or biometric passport. The Department of National Registration and Immigration has officially launched e-Passport project in 2008.

Initially, the e-Passport will be implemented as a pilot project for two months and it is to be used by the crew of Royal Brunei Airlines. National Registration and Immigration Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated the Brunei Darussalam biometric passport to replace the machine-readable passport (MRP). The Biometric Passport will ease the process of immigration checks during trips and also stop forgery and misuse of passports. The computer system of the department includes border control system, system visas and passes, and system migration under the e-government project.
