VillageRoad3 opens the way for rural Internet access in Estonia

The VillageRoad, an Estonian project is aiming to extend access to broadband Internet connections in remote rural areas of Estonia. The project is part of Estonia’s broadband strategy for 2005-2007 and it is coordinated by the Estonian Informatics Centre.

The main objective of VillageRoad project is to achieve 90 percent coverage of Internet broadband access in Estonia. Under this project, the Government has taken four new actions in providing Internet accessibility across the country. The project also includes, 11 WiMax Internet support stations, necessary transmission equipment and IT service providers. So far, 120 WiMax support stations have been erected as a part of the VillageRoad3 project.
