E-Transactions Act 2007 launched in Jamaica

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Telecommunications of Jamaica has launched the e-Transaction Act (ETA) 2007.

The objective of the Public Education Programme is to inform the public of their role, rights, responsibilities and benefits under the Act and to encourage all citizens to conduct businesses online. The e-Transaction Act provides the legal framework for secured electronic commerce in order to promote local and international confidence in the integrity and reliability of electronic documents and electronic transactions. Agencies like the Trade Board Limited, the Companies Office of Jamaica, the National Land Agency, the National Housing Trust, the Registrar General Department, the Inland Revenue Department and the Customs Department are successfully offering on-line services. The Government will be organising the Public Education Programme for the Electronic Transactions. The Programme will also include radio, print media and television advertisement. In addition, brochures, posters and facts sheets will be distributed to the public and key agencies. The Programme will be conducted during the period October 2007 to January 2008.
