Soon Indians will utility bill via online

Soon, Indians can pay their water, electricity and other utility bills online. The Urban Development Ministry has launched e-Governance project for municipalities, which has got approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.

The National Mission on e-Governance in urban local bodies will cost INR 787 crore and cover services and management functions, including online registration and issue of birth and death certificates. The project aims to create a 'single window' services to people on any time, anywhere basis. The project will focus on developing an integrated information system to connect all civic bodies in a state. The Ministry is aiming to improve the overall work culture and bring transparency in the functioning of municipal bodies. The National Mission plans to cover 423 cities across the country. The Ministry has proposed to cover 10 lakh population in all 35 cities in this fiscal year. In the next five years, the project is supposed to cover all the 423 cities having a population of one lakh and above.
