Govt spends 7 years and INR 16 crore on software that is available for free on Net

The Health Department of the Delhi Government was working since the last seven years in developing and testing an e-Hospital software. But the fact is that, e-Hospital software is already available for free on www.care2x.org.

The government version of the software, called the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), which is designed for computerising hospital functions of all major government hospitals in Delhi. The HIMS has already been deployed in 23 existing hospitals and plans to install in 6 upcoming hospitals to cost around INR 130 crore. HIMS software came into light, when Infosys-backed eGovernment Foundation casually pointed out the website to some senior bureaucrats. HIMS is freely downloadable in seven languages, including English. The HIMS is already in use in countries like Italy, Malaysia, Brazil, Germany, Costa Rica and France.
