The Indian Defence force is ready to vacate 42.5 Mhz spectrum, including the 3G spectrum by September, 2007.

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT), India has sanctioned INR 1600 million for laying an optical fibre alternative network for the Defence Forces. The Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja said that as the spectrum will be fully vacated, the DoT will fully utilise its unspent funds to the tune of INR 30,000 million for rural telephony and broadband services within a stipulated period. The minister will enable the BSNL to remain in full readiness to utilise the benefits of technological evolution in 2G/3G/WiMAX.
