The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), India, and its IT partner have initiated an INR 221 million e-Governance strategy for decentralisation of the entire working in the corporation.

This facility will provide services for 24×7 hours across the city and create a better monitoring system for the corporators, which allows the administration to plan in advance and ensure effective control. All payments will be routed through an Electronic Clearing Services (ECS) to take complete control over financial management. This is the first time, the corporation is initiating Biometrics Access Control System (BACS) for its employees. In this, smart cards would be accessed by a wall-mounted terminal device, which would capture the finger prints as well as photographs. The corporation is aiming to create a database of all the employees, provide conditional access to employees at a specified location and keep a record of attendance which would be handed over to the payroll.
