Bahrain is one of the most advanced Gulf states in terms of IT investment.
While speaking at the Gulf ICT event, Hilal Group general manager Geoffrey Milne, said, Bahrain led the GCC countries in terms of IT investments as a proportion of GDP in the year 2006 and was second after the UAE in terms of IT spending per capita with Qatar third. Bahrain has more mobile phones than people. The demand for Information Communication Technology (ICT) products across the Middle-East is increasing at an annual rate of almost 17 per cent with spending in this sector predicted to reach US$ 16.8 billion by the year 2009. The Bahrain government is launching a number of initiatives under its e-Governance plan.
