Pakistan is moving forward to bridge the digital divide in the country by improving the access to ICT for low income groups. The government is targeting to provide 1.6 million broadband connections in next three years.

The Pakistan government is planning to develop infrastructure, which will cover 75 percent of house holds in the country with high speed Internet by 2015. While speaking at the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz said the theme of the year is “Connecting the Young: the Opportunities of Information and Communication Technology”. The National Information and Communication Technology Research and Development Fund will provide the funds for this project.
