Indian teledensity reaches 18.7 percent

Indian telcom sector has reached a teledensity level of 18.7%.by April 2007. The telecom sector is expanding by adding more than 4.9 million telecom subscribers in moth of April 2007.

The GSM segment has also shown an increase of 4.13 million during the month of April 2007. While the CDMA segment registered an increase of 1.01 million, the fixed segment has declined by 0.23 million. Tamilnadu telecom circle has added more than 4.4 lakh subscribers during April 2007in the GSM segment. In the CDMA segment, Uttar Pradesh (W) added 1.96 lakh subscribers during the period. Around 2.29 million broadband connections have already reached 962 cities across the country. Under the Bharat Nirman Programme, around 47747 villages are already covered with Village Public Telephones (VPTs) and remaining 19075 villages would be covered by November, 2007.
