Soon India will have an automated electronic auction (e-Auction) system for cardamom and tea. Currently, the Spices Board is conducting a trail run of the screen-based cardamom auction system and planning to introduce it in May.
Initially, the new system will be introduced at the auction centre of the Cardamom Planters Association at Bodinaykkannur in Tamil Nadu. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) is providing the technical expertise and software for the cardamon auctions. The board has already bought the hardwarerequired for the system. Under the new system, bidders can strike a deal with a click of the mouse and the screen will show details of all the materials, which are available for auction.
