Malaysia's Selangor state government has awarded local technology provider, Obnet to connect government offices and related agencies with a state-of-the-art wireless broadband infrastructure.

Obnet will all of the Malaysian state's government departments, statutory bodies, municipals, local authorities and government-linked companies. The company is enabling these organisations to utilize voice, video and data services. The network will also support applications such as video-conferencing, surveillance monitoring and disaster recovery. In the first phase of the project, Obnet will connect 112 of the 345 government offices with the broadband network. In second phase, the company will connect rest of the 233 agencies by November. Obnet has also partnered with Cisco Systems Malaysia and Telekom Malaysia, to provide the networking technology and customer premise equipments and the Metro Ethernet services, respectively, to support SelNet.
