Govt. launches e-Governance for tax collection in India

The civic bodies of Kolkata, India have launched an integrated, centralised and e-enabled property tax collection procedure with aid from Britain's Department for International Development.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has offered the system, which will provide the speedy collection of property tax through treasury counters at KMC headquarters. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has developed the software under KMC's capacity-building programme assisted by DFID. The system will substitute the former stand-alone Fox Pro-based operations. DFID has provided INR 200 million as aid for the system. The e-Governance system is already in operation with civic bodies in Delhi, Hyderabad and Kochi.
