ACS calls Federal Govt. to create broadband national priority

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has called the federal Government to implement world-class broadband infrastructure as a national priority. ACS is also establishing a National Telecommunications Special Interest Group with the alliance of Telecommunication Society of Australia.

The infrastructure is needed to support telecommuting, video conferencing and data exchange. In this initiative, medical applications and e-health initiatives will also provide online medical services in remote communities. High speed, reliable broadband services will help address the constraints imposed by distance and provide access to e-Health, e-Government and education services, and employment and quality of life options for rural communities. ACS National Telecommunications Special Interest Group demonstrates the organization's intention to ensure that all Australians, particularly those living in rural or remote areas, have access to high speed Internet.
