NASSCOM Foundation (NF) organised a National Consultation on “Building ICT Capacities @ the Grassroots” recently in New Delhi. The Consultation explored the role of ICT in social and economic development of the country.

 

The Consultation saw the participation of 70 knowledge centre coordinators and representative over 60 districts from 8 states of the country. The main focus of the Consultation was ICT for development projects, content and services required by rural communities, sustainability path for community based knowledge centres and the role of ICT in building HIV/AIDS awareness. NF brought together IT industry to the consultation with the aim to explore synergies with their Corporate Social Responsibility projects and the ongoing grassroots projects.

 

On this occasion, NF launched the ICT for Development Community of Practice (CoP), in Disaster Management and Clean Technologies, as a part of the UN's Solution Exchange initiative.   Maxine Olson, United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative to India, formally launched the ICT for development CoP at the Consultation. NF had arranged for simultaneous translation of all the proceedings in Hindi language for the convenience of the grassroots workers, since most of the proceedings were in English.
